Parks and Recreation Master Plan (2024-2034)

The Parks & Recreation Master Plan was approved and adopted by Council on September 17, 2024.

2025 Overall Progress:

• 18% of all recommendations have been completed
• 5.8% are in progress
• 8.6% are ongoing (Ongoing recommendations are those that can always be improved, never “completed”)
• 67.6% are planned for future years (2026–2034)

Key 2025 Initiatives Include:

• Supporting community-led events with the launch of the Community Recreation Grant program
• Furthered the accessibility of our services through the installation of an accessible swing at Kinsmen Park and new Chairlift at the Kinsmen Pool
• Development of a Commemorative Asset Policy, approved by council in 2025.
• Continued support for community festivals and partnerships (e.g., Silver Stick Tournament, Ribfest, EXPO, Multicultural Festival, Buskerfest).
• Creation of post-program surveys and data dashboards to improve evaluation and decision-making.
• Launch of inclusive and barrier-free programming such as Sensory Friendly Skates, Park Club Socials, and Try-It: Ice Skating.
• Implementation of consistent branding across parks and programs, and creation of a new 2026 Recreation Calendar to replace the traditional recreation guide.
