Road Closures and Traffic Disruptions

  • Street & Sidewalk Sweeping Program 2026

The City of Pembroke has begun its preliminary Street Sweeping program on Monday April 20, 2026.

Full street and sidewalk sweeping operations are scheduled to begin on Monday April 27, 2026, and will last approximately 6 to 8 weeks.

    • Street sweeping will begin at approximately 8:00pm and will run Monday to Friday on a 24-hour schedule (weather dependant).
    • Sidewalk sweeping will take place during daytime hours – 7:30am – 3:30pm (weather dependant).

    Sweeping operations will:

    • Start from the centre of the City and progress outward toward the East and West city limits
    • Focus first on priority streets and arterial routes
    • Continue through all residential streets

While the City does sweep select sidewalks and paved boulevards, residents are encouraged to assist with spring clean-up by:

    1.    Sweeping sidewalks and boulevards in front of their property

    2.    Sweeping the paved portion at the end of their driveway to the edge of the roadway

    3.    Place sand along edge of road or in the concrete gutter for collection

    4.    Raking boulevards and placing grass clippings in green bins

    Please note:

    • City staff will collect sand piles placed at the roadside
    • Grass clippings and other yard waste must be placed in green bins and will not be collected if left in piles

These simple actions improve efficiency of spring clean up and help prevent sand and debris from entering the storm water system, protecting local rivers and waterways.

Sharing the Road with the Street Sweeper:

Street sweepers are slow-moving vehicles that stop and start frequently during operations. Motorists are asked to be patient, maintain a safe distance, and only pass when it is safe to do so.

Your cooperation helps ensure the safety of both operators and drivers while allowing the sweeper to work effectively.

Please be advised that some noise generated from the sweeping equipment during operation, particularly during overnight hours. The City appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation during sweeping operations.
