Black History Month Proclamation - February 2026

By virtue of the power vested in me

I Do Hereby Declare

February 2026

as

  Black History Month

in the City of Pembroke.

Whereas on December 14, 1995, Jean Augustine, the first Black Canadian woman elected to Parliament and the Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister, requested and received the unanimous agreement of the House of Commons on her motion to declare February Black History Month in Canada; and

Whereas during Black History Month we commemorate, celebrate, and recognize the achievements of Canadians of African descent and recognize their rights to equal opportunity and freedom from discrimination in Canada; and

Whereas Black History Month continues to provide the City of Pembroke with the opportunity to celebrate the contributions and vital role that Canadians of African descent have made to strengthen the social and cultural mosaic of our community, province, and country.

Therefore, be it resolved that I, Ron Gervais, Mayor of the City of Pembroke, do hereby proclaim the month of February 2026 as Black History Month in the City of Pembroke.

Dated in the Mayor’s Office this 17th day of February 2026

Ron Gervais

Mayor, City of Pembroke
