Science Camp

Eureka!

Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) is excited to partner with the City of Pembroke to bring "Summer Science Camp!" to local youth. This four-day program, open to children ages 9–13, offers a fun and engaging introduction to a variety of scientific fields and projects.
Participants will have a rare opportunity to explore Canada’s national nuclear laboratories, discovering exciting work in environmental science, health science, engineering, physics, computing, and more. Each day will feature a mix of hands-on activities, interactive presentations, and outdoor exploration as well as visits to the unique laboratories at the Chalk River campus!
Bus transportation is provided from the Pembroke Memorial Centre (393 Pembroke Street West) to Chalk River Laboratories and back to the Arena at the end of each day. Children will be picked up promptly at 8:30 am from the PMC and returned by 4:00 pm. Please note that no extended hours are available.

Children will be required to wear comfortable clothing and bring with them their lunch, a hat, water bottle, sunscreen and a change of clothes.

Registration will open on May 5th at 9 a.m.

Camper Information

Parents or guardians are responsible for packing their child’s lunch and snacks each day. Campers will have at least two snack breaks, and one lunch break daily. To maintain a safe environment for all campers and staff, all food must be free of nuts and seafood. We recommend including a variety of healthy food options and packing extra snacks, as children tend to be more active at camp than on a typical school day and often have increased appetites. Please also send your child with a labelled, refillable water bottle.

Staff are not permitted to administer medication to children, except in emergency situations involving an EPI-PEN or inhaler. In such cases, staff will supervise, but the child must be capable of self-administering the medication. All medication must be provided in its original, clearly labeled container, including the child’s name and dosage as prescribed by a doctor or pharmacy. Medication must be handed directly to program staff and should not be kept in the child’s backpack. If a participant requires an EPI-PEN, it must be worn at all times.

To maintain a safe environment, staff must be informed of all health conditions and safety concerns. Any diagnosed medical conditions must be clearly indicated and highlighted on the registration form. Children displaying symptoms of a contagious illness or infection will not be allowed to attend Summer Camp until the issue has been resolved and they are no longer contagious.

Campers are not allowed to bring personal items to camp, except for those included on the approved list below. Please ensure all belongings are clearly labeled and packed in a single backpack or bag. The City of Pembroke is not responsible for any items that are lost, damaged, or stolen.

Items to bring to camp:
