Canada Day

The City of Pembroke is happy to announce its plans for Canada Day 2021. Festivities will include virtual entertainment, take-home craft and activity kits, chalk art downtown, Canada Day trivia, picnic boxes, and a Canada Day photo contest.

After a private opening ceremony, virtual entertainment will take place all afternoon and into the evening. Entertainment includes Chris McKhool’s Fiddlefire! Kids Show, Mark Clearview’s magic show, Sultans of String, and Sierra Levesque. These performances can be viewed on the City of Pembroke YouTube channel the day of and for 1-week post Canada Day.

Take-home craft kits will be available through the Pembroke Public Library. Participants are able to make a Canada Day wreath out of a paper plate and tissue paper. In addition, the Recreation Department will be offering activity kits that include Canada-themed word searches, colouring pages, instructions on making a 3D model of the Parliament Buildings and a Snowbird Jet, and much more!

Studio Dreamshare will be transforming our downtown into a chalk masterpiece!

Groups of households will be able to get together and make their mark on one of the letters in 'H A P P Y C A N A D A D A Y' on the downtown sidewalk. To create your own chalk masterpiece, you must pre-register here: Spaces are limited! All are welcome to check out the chalk drawings downtown; however, we encourage everyone to follow COVID-19 guidelines and to support a local business while downtown. Chalk drawings downtown are being sponsored by the Pembroke Business Improvement Area.

The Canada Day online fundraiser trivia will be starting at 7 p.m.! The category for this game is everything Canada-related! 50% of proceeds will go to a local charity and 50% of proceeds will go to the winning team. Teams of up to 6 can play (even in different households) for $30. Participants will receive a code and link to livestream the trivia once registered. Picnic boxes will be available through His and Hers Gourmet Grazing. Boxes include tons of goodies and are available in individual, medium and large sizes. Individual boxes are $15 + tax, medium is $45 +tax, and large is $80 + tax. You can order your boxes by contacting His and Hers Gourmet Grazing at [email protected], calling

For our photo contest, take a photo of you participating in some of our Canada Day festivities, or just something Canada Day related that is COVID-19 safe, and submit your photo to [email protected]. Photos will be posted on the City of Pembroke's Facebook page where people can vote on their favourite picture. The top three photos will win a special Canada Day prize (to be released at a later date)! Photos are to be submitted by Friday July 2nd at 4pm.

Due to gathering restrictions, there will be no fireworks this year at Riverside Park. However, we hope to hold them in August when more people are able to enjoy them.
