Top 10 Reasons to do Business in Pembroke


Win This Space is a contest by the City of Pembroke for entrepreneurs to win a commercial space in Pembroke rent-free for 6-months on a 2-year lease. We are now accepting entries until February 27th at 4:00pm. If you have always dreamed of opening your own business, now is your chance! Enter now by filling out the below form with your business idea. Provided that their business idea is legal, fits with zoning requirements, and the individual does not have any outstanding fines, taxes, or orders with the City, then they will be invited to join the contest. A launch will be held on March 5, 2018 at 6:00 pm at City Hall. Following this will be three training sessions throughout the month of March that are free and mandatory for participants. The final submission is in the form of a business plan and will be due on April 15, 2018. The judging panel will score each business plan against a set of criteria and the top 5 contestants will be named from this. On May 10, 2018 a Grand Finale will be held where the Top 5 finalists will have one last chance to pitch their business idea to the judges. The judges will deliberate and a Grand Prize Winner will be announced live that night. The Grand Prize winner will choose the space they wish from the available properties and must open the business within 4 months of winning the contest. Community Improvement Plan - Available Grants

As of September 2016 Pembroke has launched it's Community Improvement Plan (CIP). A Community Improvement Plan is a tool used by municipalities to assist in community revitalization and achieving economic, community planning, and urban development goals through encouraging private-sector investment. 

Pembroke Economic Development Advisory Committee

Formed in March, 2015, the Pembroke Economic Development Advisory Committee (PEDAC) provides input to the Planning and Development Committee of Council on matters pertaining  to business attraction and retention. Members meet on a regular basis with City managers to receive reports and studies, and to provide advice on matters that may impact the economic climate of Pembroke. Their role is fully outlined in the Terms of Reference that were established to guide their decision making processes.
